I,ve got a question about china,s new pups. They will be three weeks old tomorrow and they are getting really loose stools. They smell to high heaven. China is eating Nutro Max. Is this normal for the pups? I've had pups before but not pit pups. Could use your advice. Do I need to let a vet look at them?

doo doo usually smells....... pitbulls, pit/lab, pit/collie, and even those blue pit "like" dogs too....no need for a vet to confirm these odors.;)

HaHaHa!!! That's very funny. We all know that sh*t stinks, I'm just worried about it turning into a chronic case and the pups dehydrating!

Have you ever wormed these pups? You can take a stool sample to your vet and get it checked for not that much money....Once you know if they have worms, which most pups do, you can treat them. It would be a good first step.

I would take the worst pup to the vet and get enough meds for the entire litter. Sounds kind of like coccidia (sp) but I am not 100% sure on this. The vet will be the best answer.

I agree with circle K.It sounds a lot like coccidia, but they need to be seen by the vet so he can do a fecal exam.It will show if they have worms and coccidia.Do it now before its too late.

You don't need to take the pup to the vet to get a fecal done, just get a sample from a few of the pups, and take the sample to the vet. They can do a flotation there and read the results. You will have to treat them all anyways. If you have a way to weigh all your pups, the vet can give you the dosage for each. I try to avoid taking the young ones to the vet as that is where they are likely to pick something up. Just like the hospital, which is full of sick people, so is the Vet Clinic.

I agree with not taking them to the vet, you'll just open them to all kinds of diseases, I also agree with coccidia, which is a bacteria, it smells real bad. just take the poopoo in a baggie make sure it's fresh. take enough so they can float some for the worms and look at some under a microscope.

Coccidia is caused by protazoa. If you just want to bring a stool sample in, make sure you have a good sample, in fact, get a couple of samples, & make sure they are no older than 2 hours. Any older than that & they cannot be used.

And China, what is up with your signature? Are you implying that pit bulls are aggressive & one would rather hope to be bitten by a rattlesnake than come face to face with a "mean, viscious, maneating" pit bull? I don't know, but that's what it says, & that's what it sounds like. Nice image.....................

Maybe, but my dogs would jump in the car with the pizza delivery guy & that's the way it should be. A dog that shows aggression in my home is dead before it could even reach my clinic. No questions asked.

LOL. You'd fit in well here then. Just add a lil extra cheese though too! Oh, & the dogs get the crust, so don't even try to eat it.....they'll stare you down every time. :)
