Animal Welfare act of 1976
<!--end heading_1--><!--begin text_1-->On July 22, 1976, the President of the United States signed into law something called "The Animal Welfare Act of 1975". Much of the new law concerns itself with humane treatment of animal in transit from one place to another and amendments to previously pased legislation concerning farm animals and laboratory animals.
Section 26 of The Animal Welfare Act prohibits animal fighting ventures and reads as follows:-
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly sponsor, or exhibit an animal in any animal fighting venture to which any animal was moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell, buy, transport or eliver to anothe person or receive from another person for purposes of transportations, in interstate or foreign commerce any dog or other animal for purposes of having the dog or other animal participate in an animal fighting venture.
Paragraph (d) sets forth the penalty for violating paragraphs a-b-c, ,000 fine, imprisonment of not more than one year or both.
Paragraph (e) authorized in government to investigate any alleged violation of this law, and authorizing any such person to obtain the assistance of the FBI, the Department of the Treasury, and other law enforcement agencies of either the United States, state and local government agencies. It further provides that a warrant may be issued by any Judge or U. S. Commissioner, to search for and seize any animal which there is PROBABLE CAUSE to believe was involved in any violation of this law.
