Is this the same for all staffy types ? He knows how to get through the hedge and is very head strong if he wants to go you need to watch him like a hawk. I have a big chain but dont think its fair to keep him on it all the time. cheers.

If you don`t think it`s fair to have him on a chain....How fair will it be for him to be put down because of your lackadaisical attatude to having his beed of dog ????

Yeah I know but the more you tell some one no the more they want to do it. So keeping him on the chain will make him want to go exploring even more in my eyes.

My last dog was the biggest dog in my town (mastiff) and I never even had a gate on my fence. He was bigger than the fence and the gate broke over time. This dog was in the garden all day every day whithout a chain and never left the garden once in ten year without me. So in my eyes their must be a way to train him to stay in his own garden or can this dog type not be trained ?

My uncle had an american pit the same conditions as my mastiff and it was the best dog ever. It was even in movies. Thank god you are not a police man because their would be no one left on the streets.

Your Uncle was a very lucky man, but also a very irresponsible/negligent owner of a "bully" breed type dog, and it seems you are following in his footsteps with the oblivious flippant attitude you are showing. Do you really want to take the chance of your dog becoming a news item ? do you even know what that means... me thinks not....it`s because of you and people like you with the same flippancy people who love, respect, and act resposibly towards our breed have a duty or responsibility to try and educate dumbfcuk`s who think this breed is a trophy peice and underestimate the power and the traits of the breed you have. Listen to what your being told and take heed.

I do understand but I want my dog to be trained on and off the lead. I have knew three dogs in my life time to be chain all day.Dog 1 tried to eat the guys family and the other 2 the police put to sleep because some people just think chainig a dog is the easy option. Its a bad day when you cant let the dog out into the garden for a piss whitout a chain on FACT

then you need to make sure that your garden is escape proof !

it only takes something like your dog getting a sniff of a bitch on heat and he"s on a mission !!

yeah I know m8 if I cant fixthe holes in the headge he will be on the chain 100 %. I dont think this dog will ever do what he is told thats why I asked in the first place. My old dog was 1 in a million and I would not let this new 1 have a free run like he did.

This dog is his ownself. Not your old dog. He can be trained but like they say "ya gotta be smarter than the object you're working with"

When i was looking to move a few years back my first priority was the garden for the dogs..lol..(never mind bedroom space for my sons etc.
My garden is perfect for my 3,with a few additions and following the dogs round before i first moved in to see their reactions and any escape roots.
I treat my garden like it was a for a toddler, looking from every angle, upstairs windows, you get my drift.
Ive a good quality fencing and chained up gate with locks,i dont ever leave my dogs out in garden as a form of exercise though as wouldnt you get bored and pi$$ of if nothing to do,i have springpole etc what i do with them and boomer ball etc but thats just extra stuff i do.Try not to let him out if he hasnt had a good run etc as boredom will take over and they will try escape.
If a male dont forget he can smell a bitch in season miles away,CATS are another reason, they have been with me in the past, water pistol soon solved that.
You could also make it a good place to be by adding things he enjoys and mix with him when out there,Good luck and hope you sort it.
