UPF sanctioned event.

Judge; Dave Wilson.Jds Bullies.

This was my first event as chief judge, and made all the better by the attitude of those attending and taking part, and thanks to the other judges in attendance Chris Carpenter, and Steve Owen, who made the day run smooth with their support, and help when I pulled my own dogs.

As always at the base camp, the weather was great, and the dogs all arrived on time, we started off with Ruben, a young English Bull Terrier, who has come on leaps and bounds in his training and showing himself to be a very strong pup, John has done well bringing this young fellow along, he will be one to watch in the future.

Rubed pulled as a novice because of his age, and as such the lead was permitted, and used as guidance.

Then we moved on to one of the two hottest contested rounds of the day, the Diddy vs Missy show- these two dogs (former Kennel mates) went head to head, with the weights going up and up, Chris working Missy, and young Kane working Diddy, the poker heads were on both trainers, with the passing of weights, and head to head when the weights were high.

This battle was all that was expected of it, Diddy’s past record speaking for itself, and she was on form- but Chris has been in training with Missy and it showed, she really pulled out the stops for her new owner-and the work put in , payed results with Missy just pulling ahead and taking the class.
We at the Players Club know this battle will rage on-and just get better and better.

I then got a chance to work one of my dogs Mina, who was a rescue, and this season has made the transition from Novice to competitor, well she made her pulls, a little excitable and reminiscent of helicopter, but the training is paying dividends not just in her consistency, but her nature.
She made six pulls and as she was the only dog in the class took her class, and enjoyed her day.

Then we moved on to another contested class 80lb, featuring Hooligan, Winston, (Olde Tyme) and Winston,(mixed breed), Player, Steve pulled with Player and Hooligan so was busy with the two dogs, Hooligan was pulling well and consistently and showed good form- leaving a battle royal between Winston, (mixed breed) and Player our namesake and American bulldog,Winston had warmed up nicely a few weeks before at another event down south, and was showing himself both a strong puller and game dog, Player as usual was the pulling machine, with textbook technique and efficiency, Winston Olde tyme) coming in with some great pulls and again showing the difference training with the Players Club can make, and then the battle was on- Winston pulled high into the 1000s and was pipped by Player, Steve took him one weight increment further and clinched the class, but watch this space for Winston-I’m sure both he and his owner Mickey will be back stronger and better for the experience.
Dave Pulled Blade next, and both started a little unsettled, and although Blade pulled, he baulked early, this is a Player son, in looks and ability, and if the two of them can settle, will make for a strong partnership.

The last Class of the day saw the two monsters of the bulldog world, Kaiser and Tiny, Tiny was retired and is another of my dogs, as he has not pulled before with the UPF, and I wanted him to experience the chute, I pulled him as a novice, my plan was to get at least six good pulls from him, which he did with ease, and gave me some idea of the work I need to put into him for the future, he enjoyed himself and was pleased with the praise.
I then moved out of the way for Kaiser, being pulled by Dee to have a full run at the weights, Kaiser made it all look too easy and almost mundane going up the weights like clockwork, and eventually pulling maximum weight for the day, well done Dee and Kaiser.

The pull showed that both Novice and experienced pullers can pull side by side and as usual at the base camp the atmosphere was just fantastic with everybody enjoying all the classes, and as you can see a good number of titles were obtained.

Well done all the dogs and all the trainers, it just bodes very well for canine weightpull in the UK.
