I got a response from my inquiry about Ranger this morning. The woman from the shelter said that he may not be a good match for smaller dogs (I have a Dachshund) because he's had some issues with them in the past, so no go there. :[ I was really looking forward to having him! She told me that she knows of a woman who is caring for a sweetie pit mix that is about a year old (I believe). I think I'm going to hold off on adopting another dog for a while (I WANT THEM ALL!!!) since I have four as it is.
If anyone is interested, this little girl needs a home! I believe she's at Homeward Bound in Durant, OK. I don't know their adoption policy, but I'm sure something could be worked out.
This is the email I got from her previous owner regarding Dana's disposition:
Hi Jessica,
My name is Patti Ryan and I think Dana would be a great dog for you. I have a call into homeward bound to get their ***esment of her in regard to your questions. I can tell you she was great with my dogs. I have 7, mutts and mixes , male and female. She played very well with the bigger ones and tried to play with my 3 chihuahuas but they didn't want anything to do with her. And she could have been a little rough on them just due to size and weight. I have 3 kids the youngest is 11. Dana was great with her and her friends. Really wary about babies though with her being a puppy that weighs about 50lbs. That may not work.Very friendly to all visitors. Really don't think she would be good around cats, don't know for sure but she was very interested in chasing squirrels and rabbits. She is not great on a leash but we didn't work with her much on that. Occ***ional walks but she needed constant instruction. I'm sure with practice she would be fine shes a really smart dog who is eager to please. Never had an accident in the house. Slept inside at night. She would sit (esp. for treats) and would come when called unless distracted by those darn cows, they were just too much for her to turn away from. You know pits have such a bad rep but they are so sweet. Visitors were always surprised to find out she was a pit. She had a rough beginning. Confiscated from an apt. in Denton, Tx. where the police found a litter of 9 with mom and dad. Dogs were not being cared for. My son took one of the pups and kept her for 8 mos. His Landlord sold his house and new owner was not leasing home so he had to move into apt. None would al! low his dogs. I have had his dogs since Oct. I have acreage but only horse fencing. Dana kept chasing the cows behind me and the farmer started shooting at her and told me he would kill her. I cannot afford new fencing on my property and my other dogs do not require it. I tried a little field fencing for Dana but with the other dogs running around she would inevitably find a way out as the field fencing is not very sturdy. I couldn't protect her so I took her to homeward bound in Durant. It was heartbreaking. She is healthy, happy, up to date on heartworm preventative and spayed. She has yellow teeth due to an antibiotic given to her when she was recovered by the police. But have been ***ured just a cosmetic effect no health problems. Here is her pic if you are interested let me know and I will let you know what homeward bound thought and will be happy to bring her out to you for a visit.
